CRAIG BALSAM
Craig Balsam co-founded Razor & Tie in 1990, along
with his business partner and friend, Cliff Chenfeld.
The New York-based company has become one of the fastest
growing independent entertainment companies in the United
States, successfully selling audio and video products
through direct response television advertising, traditional
retail distribution and smart, e-commerce based websites.
Razor & Tie, a vertically integrated company, encompasses
a record label, a home video company, a media buying company,
major label distribution, an experienced marketing, promotion
and sales team, a direct marketing operation and a growing
database of entertainment consumers.
The company has built a reputation for producing and
marketing the most successful music compilations in
the market, including platinum and gold albums Monster
Ballads, Goin' South, and Pulse, among others.
Razor & Tie has created, produced and marketed
some of the most successful home video/DVD releases
in the U.S. including Darrin's Dance Grooves,
the #1 Special Interest and Fitness Video in the United
States in 2002, which has sold over 1,000,000 units.
Razor & Tie is responsible for the Kidz Bop CD
series, the top-selling children's audio project
in the U.S.
Razor & Tie, the record label, is home to a diverse
group of acclaimed recording artists including, singer/songwriter
Dar Williams, breakthrough rock act Brand New, legendary
hip hop innovator/producer/DJ Prince Paul, and The Clarks,
among others.
Craig was born in New Jersey and received his J.D.
from New York University School of Law in 1986 after
graduating from Emory University. Prior to forming Razor
& Tie, he practiced law in Manhattan at Robinson,
Silverman, Pearce, Aronsohn and Berman (now Bryan Cave).
