Bio

Folk singer/songwriter Joan Baez began her legendary music career at the brisk young age of 18, when she performed onstage at the first Newport Folk Festival in 1959. Baez has been at the heart of the American social and political scene for many years and continues to be an outspoken advocate.

Celebrating her 50th year in the music industry, the legendary Joan Baez has received eight gold albums, seven Grammy nominations and in 2006 was honored with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. DAY AFTER TOMORROW (Bobolink/Razor & Tie), Baez's 24th studio album (first album since 2003), was produced by the acclaimed Steve Earle. As one of the most accomplished interpretive folk singers, Baez's new album features songs and material by Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Patty Griffin and Earle himself. Highlights on the record include the Tom Waits-penned title track "Day After Tomorrow," the Academy and Grammy Award-nominated song "Scarlet Tide," written by Elvis Costello and T-Bone Burnett and "God is God," written by Steve Earle especially for the project. The album has received rave reviews - Vanity Fair called the music "extraordinary," Paste raved "Baez still shines" and NPR declared her songs "have had a profound influence on our culture."

In the first comprehensive documentary to chronicle the private life and public career of Joan Baez: How Sweet The Sound examines her history as a recording artist and performer as well as her remarkable journey as the conscience of a generation in a narrative anchored by Baez herself. The release will feature a DVD with bonus content and an audio CD of music form the film. Following her on a 2008/2009 world tour, the filmmakers captured Baez in performance as well as intimate conversations with individuals whose lives parallel hers.
